Gene Unruh
Last Mountain-Touchwood
Gene grew up on a small farm north of Duck Lake, Saskatchewan. He graduated from Stobart High School located in Duck Lake in 1983. After graduation, Gene moved to Saskatoon where he worked in the tire business before pursuing a career in education.
After four years at the University of Saskatchewan Gene received his Bachelor of Education Degree. Gene became a certified teacher, moving to Semans, Saskatchewan for his first teaching position. Five years later Gene moved to Raymore, Saskatchewan, where he would continue growing his teaching experience, focusing mainly on Math. Gene eventually became vice principal and then principal at Raymore School.
Gene has always been willing to volunteer for many duties, such as building decking for the newly built pool, building play structures at the park and school, and coaching for many years. Gene is also a member of the board of directors for the local Credit Union and an executive member for the Touchwood Hills Wildlife Federation for over 20 years. In June of 2020, Gene retired from education and now enjoys spending his time hunting, going on fishing trips with his family, helping his son on the farm, or filming videos and editing for his YouTube channel.
Gene has been happily married to his wife Charlene for 33 wonderful years. They have been blessed with two amazing children. Cole, the oldest, is an engineer and is pursuing farming with his wife and four children. Hayley is a nurse working in the emergency department at both St. Paul’s Hospital and the Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon.
