Parental Rights in Education Petition
To the government of Saskatchewan:
We the undersigned wish to bring to your attention the following:
The Government of Saskatchewan has announced new pro-parental rights policies consisting of the following:
- Parental consent when changing the preferred name and pronouns used by students under the age of 16 in the school
- Parents must be informed about the sexual health education curriculum and have the option to decline their children's participation; and,
- Ending the involvement with any third-party organizations, such as ARC Foundation and the SOGI 1 2 3 Program, connected to sexual health education. Only teachers, not outside third-parties, will be able to present sexual education materials in the classroom.
The Saskatchewan government has since been lobbied, pressured, and threatened with legal action by third-party activist organizations such as UR Pride Centre for Sexuality and Gender Diversity and Egale Canada, to immediately suspend the new pro-parental rights policies.
We the undersigned petition the government of Saskatchewan to:
Not yield or be swayed by the threats of activist organizations, and to stand with Saskatchewan parents as the primary educators and caregivers of their children.
Invoke Section 33 of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, the notwithstanding clause, to fully uphold and enforce the Government of Saskatchewan's newly announced pro-parental rights policies listed above.
Fully enforce the above pro-parental rights policies in all publicly funded Saskatchewan schools, with all employees and organizations under the Ministry of Education required to adhere to the new policies.
